CAFODno one beyond reach

What does CAFOD do?

CAFOD is an international development charity and the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales.

We reach out to people living in poverty with practical help, whatever their religion or culture. Through our global Church network, one of the largest in the world, we have the potential to reach everyone. And we campaign for global justice, so that every woman, man and child can live a full and dignified life.

CAFOD has a representative in almost every parish in the country. There are two official Fast days in the year, Lent and Harvest. Money is collected in each parish for CAFOD at these times. Through volunteers it is also possible to fund raise for CAFOD at other times e.g. by sponsored walks, or music evenings, the ideas for fund raising are endless. There is always a great need throughout the world for assistance for food, clothing, medicines, shelter etc. sadly the needs are great.

CAFOD encourages parishioners to pray for the work of CAFOD across the world, particularly in great areas of need e.g. Yemen, Ukraine, Somalia, Afghanistan in 2022-23. CAFOD is also a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee.(DEC)

CAFOD campaigns against injustice and speaks out for those without a voice, those living in poverty or fleeing war. Stimulated by the Pope’s encyclical ‘Laudate Si’. people have also been campaigning about Climate Change.

It is possible to donate to CAFOD on a regular basis. It is also possible to consider leaving a donation in your Will to CAFOD. If you would like details about this please go to the CAFOD website: www.cafod.org.uk      or email: cafod@cafod.org.uk

Alternatively you may like to speak to St. Michael’s CAFOD representative and PVC: Mary Dignan Tel: 01285 760472 or speak to Mary after Mass on Sundays.

If you would like to volunteer for CAFOD in the parish that would be most welcome. Please express your interest to Mary.
